Nutrition Switch

Welcome to Nutrition Switch! If you are here you are wanting to learn more about how to live a healthier lifestyle, find consistency and learn the basics of flipping your nutrition switch and mastering your Eat to Live lifestyle!

I am Erika-Michelle Best, your Nutrition Mentor, and over the years have researched, learned, absorbed and applied all that I will share here in this community! I have lost over 100 lbs in my weight loss journey and it hasn't always been easy and quick. The question I get asked most often is did I eat different and/or exercise, and in short, yes I did. I have battled with weight most of my life and trust me, it seems easier to find the latest weight loss program to assist in your goals and I am in support of this. In fact, I was in the business of helping others with their weight loss goals through supplementation, but what I want to encourage you to understand is those things shouldn't replace healthy lifestyle choices, but enhance those choices, so yes, still eat right for your body and move your body aka exercise. It will only benefit you for the long term.

As a wife and stay at home/homeschooling mom of three very intelligent and strong willed children, I truly understand the battle between having time for self and providing for my family, but there comes a time where you get sick and tired of being sick and tired and understand that taking care of you IS providing for your family. When you feel better and more confident, you are more productive and more equipped to handle the challenges life throws at ya!

Here you will find resources on various eating plans that may suit your specific dietary needs. Go at your own pace, but it is set up for you to do each day to really get started and taking action each day to make this change for yourself!

Thank you for joining Nutrition Switch and I look forward to helping you!

Tip:

The first step to your eat to live lifestyle is choosing a meal plan that is right for your needs. There are so many different meal plans today: keto, clean eating, plant based, vegetarian/vegan, paleo, whole foods and more. Your goal shouldn't be to follow the latest in "fad" diets, but to truly understand how YOUR body reacts to different foods. Every body is different for everybody. So while Keto may have worked wonders for your friend, Suzy, it may not be suitable for you. Taking some time to investigate which foods your body responds to in a positive way is important. For instance, it took me forever to recognize that dairy was causing me to bloat up. Like, seriously, every time I'd eat yellow cheeseor drink creamer,I'd look like I was 7 months pregnant,no offense pregnant ladies, but, let's be honest, looking pregnant is only beautiful when you're actually pregnant, am I right?! It was so bad it became a joke in my family that "mommy had a food baby!" This took me 6 months to realize what was causing the inflammation and I'm here to help you drastically reduce the time it takes to recognize your body's response to foods by basically saying, start paying attention now when you eat things how do they make you feel. I use a food journal to help me log and jot down things as I go.

Here's what you can do:

  1. Cook your regular meals

  2. Log your meals and make notes on how you felt that day (tired, sluggish, energized, focused, mood elevated, depressed, anxiety, bloated, hydrated, etc.)

  3. Review your food log for the week and add more of the foods that helped you feel energized, focused, hydrated, etc.)

  4. Once it's determined what type of foods your body responds well to, choose your meal plan (keto, clean eating, plant based, etc.)

  5. Set a start date for your meal plan transition.
